Hello everyone,The AGM & election of Board  and Directors meeting will take place Tuesday October 27, 2026 10:30 – 12:30 am Seventh Day Adventist Church 5401 McConnell across from the college followed by High Tea. Please bring along a little something to add to our menu.
The first part is a review of the year then voting. Names already on the agenda are those that have indicated they are interested and committed. More names can be added so if you are interested please let us know. 
This is a milestone year celebrating our 5th Birthday. It should be lots of fun.

Also don’t forget to vote for Diana Penner for Mayor !!!! yes if you want change to how the city operates, be sure to vote.  I have also added the link for you to watch the all candidate forum held on Oct. 1st, 2026.See you then.

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are beating the heat!!!  My daughter and I were up at the crack of dawn, just 2 1/2 hrs in line to get our veggies and fruit and a dance with the lovely Mexican men for my daughter !!! 

They are the kindest men ever!!  For those that follow their page and know the story of Maverick, a young boy who they spent many hours in the hospital with – Maverick passed several weeks ago. His parents are here to help take their minds off of that and to help.

All of them will be at the corner at 3:00 today if you want to come out and say hello and I am sure they will all love to have a dance with you.(men included). Come have some fun.

It was a ton of fun, well worth the lack of sleep.  Hope you can head to the corner later.

How-To Be Doctored With No Doctor in BC?

What if you don’t have your own doctor? These are your health care options in BC. Some are new, confusing or hard to find. These are all I’ve discovered over the months since my GP retired. Please write info@skeenavalleyseniors.org with any needed corrections you notice.

First, if you are experiencing chest pain or bleeding profusely, you need to get off this page and phone 911. Do it now.

To get another GP, you need to get on a waiting list.
If you live in British Columbia and need a family doctor or nurse practitioner, register for the Health Connect Registry. Do this first as a start:

Accessing health services while you wait

New rules for pharmacists mean that they may renew your prescription for e.g. 90 days, instead of only giving you an ‘Emergency prescription’ of maybe a week’s worth of your prescription. The only thing is that a doctor must have prescribed you within the past two years for that drug.

There are health services available while you wait to connect with a new family doctor or nurse practitioner.
If you dial 811, you will be able to get advice and renew prescriptions that your pharmacist can’t.

Virtual Clinic
Will give you an appointment to a call from a doctor, so you can get advice and referrals for needed tests like blood work or imaging. You can’t get that from 811:

They don’t make this easy to discover for some reason.

Primary care services such as walk-in clinics, Urgent and Primary Care Centres, Foundry Centres, First Nations Primary Care Centres and more are available throughout British Columbia. NOTE: Terrace doesn’t have any walk-in clinics!! Additionally, you can visit your local pharmacy if you need to renew or change some prescriptions or treat minor conditions such as allergies or urinary tract infections.

You can also call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 to speak to a health service navigator, nurse, dietitian, exercise professional, pharmacist or physician. 8-1-1 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with support in over 130 languages.

Rani Parmar’s Farewell

We are sadly losing one of our long-time members, Rani Parmar, who is leaving in early October to go and live with her daughter, Angie, and son-in-law, Michael, in Surrey, BC.

Rani came to Terrace around 1970, a year after her husband Nirmal came to the community.   She worked in the hospital kitchen for many years and has supported and been with Nirmal to many, many events over the years and in so doing has made many, many friends, particularly with Terrace & District Multicultural Association, Skeena Diversity, the Red Hat Ladies, Kermode Friendship Centre and the Skeena Valley Seniors Society.  Her consistency in being a ‘connector’ in our community has been outstanding and her ability to maintain this since Nirmal passed away four years ago has been admirable.  Rani has always been available over the years to help with our annual fund-raising events and we will very much miss her support and her chuckles.

We cannot let Rani leave without her having the opportunity to say ‘farewell’ to those whose lives she has touched on, so……we are hosting an Open House at Skeena Diversity Centre (4721 Lazelle Avenue) between the hours of 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 20th.  There will be refreshments, goodies and music for you to enjoy as well.

This is a no-gift gathering – we simply ask that you come and bring with you a memory in the form of a card, a poem, a photograph or a story, or anything 2-dimensional that will fit into the Scrapbook we are creating for Rani to take with her.   Memories are our greatest gift to each other and she will relish and love this gift like no other.   

Supplies will be available to help include your memory in the Scrapbook when you come so it will be compiled (mostly) that day.  If you are not able to come and wish to have your memory included in the Scrapbook please let us know and we will ensure it is  inserted.

We are trying our best to contact everyone Rani knows so if you know of someone  please pass this invitation on.  Thank you.

First Members Meeting after our summer break!!!!!

Hello Everyone,Our first Members Meeting after our summer break!!!!!  We are starting early on this meeting, only as it is also the first day of school and kids are only going half day and some may need to pick their grandchildren up.
We had a very busy, successful summer at Seniors Corner Thriftstore, please come and hear the numbers and all our news.

Farmers Market Coupons

The yellow tickets number 10 x $3.00 = $30.00 and is specific to Honey purchase.
The blue tickets number 20 x$3.00 = $60.00 are directed to Meat purchases and if you don’t want honey you can use the yellow for meat as well for a total of $90.00.
The green tickets 60 x $3.00 =$180.00 are for veggies, fruit, eggs, plants, nuts.
Should you not want meat or honey you can apply your blue and yellow to your green ticket purchases.
We hope this helps your summer food budget. Please let us know if you have any questions and please use all of your coupons, they are only good for this year. If something happens limiting your use of the tickets please hand them into the corner and we will pass on to someone in need.

More on the Dan Levit Luncheon

Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt and 11 other service groups and government officials provided information and open dialogue to an audience of 143 seniors at Arena Banquet room July 8th. A lunch was served by Skeena Valley Seniors Society volunteers who hosted and coordinated the event.
