Hope Air is a national charity that supports Canadians in financial need, who must travel for a healthcare appointment far from Home. Hope Air assists both patients and required caregivers with free flights, accommodations, meals and arrival airport Uber ground transportation.

Hope Air arranges medical travel support for Canadians in financial need. Our programs assist patients travelling far to reach specialty medical care. Program availability and eligibility varies based upon province of residence.

To find out if you are eligible for travel support you need to visit their website and answer three very simple questions before you may apply:
– Do you have a confirmed medical appointment that requires you to travel long distance?
– Is your medical specialist appointment covered under your provincial health plan?
– Are you in financial need based on household income, size, and medical travel costs?
If the answers to all 3 are ‘Yes’, then they’ll accept your application.

This service delivers hot, cold, or frozen nutritious meals to those who have
difficulty or are unable to prepare their own meals. Meals can be tailored to meet
specific dietary needs. Seniors benefit through social contact and the security of
knowing that a volunteer will check on them on delivery days.

Provides home-delivered meals to support the nutritional needs of seniors, the disabled, and those recovering from surgery or illness in the community.

This program is ready for seniors who many need assistance with house work as
well as minor plumbing, home repairs, and installation of safety equipment. Labor
is free, clients pay for materials. Free consultations are available for seniors who
need major home repairs.

Home and Community Care provides a range of health care and support services for eligible residents. These services are designed to complement and supplement, but not replace the efforts of individuals to care for themselves with the assistance of family, friends and community.

Home and community care services are designed to provide the right care in the right setting by offering:

• Support for clients to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible
• At-home services (for example, home care nursing) to prevent admission to hospital or to allow for earlier discharge from hospital
• Respite (temporary relief) for a client’s unpaid caregivers
• Assisted Living services to clients who are still independent, but require a higher level of care
• Residential care services to clients who can no longer be supported in their homes

The Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP), provides health equipment to individuals recovering from illness or injury, and empowers people to live with independence and dignity. Like a prescription, healthcare professionals refer clients to the Canadian Red Cross and health equipment is selected to safely meet the needs of each individual.

HELP is a volunteer-supported, community-based service made possible through the support of, provincial governments, health authorities, donations of used equipment, donor contributions, and the efforts of thousands of volunteers and professional staff. John Roders has been cutting hair for years on the main floor of the Park Avenue Medical building. Now retired, he is kindly offering 5 cuts on Saturday afternoons starting at 1:00.
